Ficosa Sends International Team of Financiers for DiSC® Training

How do you spell “challenge”? Try workshop participants from 3 different countries, who all work in a field not traditionally known for teamwork, collaboration, and sharing!

Ficosa is a car-parts company based near Detroit, Michigan. Although they’re based near the Motor City, they are really a global company with operations in countries all over the world.

On this particular day, for our DiSC® training with them, they sent a group of accountants and financial officers from three different nations – all together for some DiSC® training.

Everyone Loves a Challenge

Thanks to the very helpful staff at the Embassy Suites in Troy, MI, we were able to set the room up exactly the way we wanted: for maximum interaction!

Of course, knowing your typical accountants, that meant stepping outside comfort zones for many in the group. That was challenge #1.

Then, there was somewhat of a language barrier, as the participants were from three different countries: U.S.A., Mexico, and Spain. At least there were only two, not three, languages at play that day!

But we love a challenge, and soon everyone was feeling warmed up due to our ice breakers. They do the trick every time! We also built the mood slowly, onboarding each member to the idea of interacting and sharing at his own pace.

Ice Breakers Did the Trick

After ice breakers convinced everyone that DiSC® training can be done in a stress-free environment and a judgement-free zone, things started to roll out a little more smoothly. Those accountants got warmed up and we began to dig into the DiSC® materials.

We were able to explore communication styles, and then did some activity on building listening skills. We explored trust and how to increase trust among co-workers. There was also an interactive activity on how to handle stress.

The Lost at Sea team building activity allowed the group to put some of the DiSC® theories to the test (plus it was fun!). They also challenged themselves in a round of “strength-centered compliments”.

Finally, we rounded things out with an activity on the power of influence, followed by an activity where we put it all together, using material covered throughout the day.

With the Proper Buy-In, Groups Cover a Lot

Although the Ficosa group had got off to a slow start, once they warmed up to the idea of sharing and learning about DiSC® they really sunk their teeth into the concepts and challenged themselves and each other in inspiring ways. Hats off to those Ficosa accountants and financial officers- great job!
